Medicare is a federal health insurance program that helps pay for health care for individuals living in the U.S. who are either disabled or 65 and older. For people that do have Medicare and need drug or alcohol recovery services in Dakota, this program can pay for various rehabilitation programs and treatment services. Medicare consists of different "Parts", with Parts A-D covering different types of care.

Part A (Insurance for Hospital Stays) - Medicare Part A covers inpatient drug and alcohol treatment, and up to 60 days in treatment without a co-pay but policy holders will be required to pay a deductible. Medicare only pays for a total of 190 days of inpatient care, this applies to the person's lifetime.

Part D (Prescription Insurance) Medicare Part D pays for substance abuse related medications. Including medications associated with treating drug and alcohol withdrawal as well as those required for maintenance therapy such as methadone or buprenorphine.
