There is also a version of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, which is a drug that blocks the effects of opiates. Someone taking this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken every day, and costs around $450 monthly. Naltrexone is another med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned here it is an opiate blocker and is not an opiate. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents someone from feeling high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 per month.
