Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Facilities - Bland, MO.

Vivitrol is a drug used to help prevent drug or alcohol dependency and relapse, and is used expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended-release type of the drug Naltrexone, which one can get through injection once a month. It isn't addictive, and is what is called an antagonist. When someone injects Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be activated by opioids or alcohol, so when someone takes a drink of alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they basically can't get high or drunk.

There are certain precautions that need to be taken before an individual is administered Vivitrol. First off, a person who plans to start Vivitrol must have abstained from opioids for a minimum of 7-10 days. This is including clients who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking drugs like Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin addict or a person who has been on Methadone for several years, abrupt cessation is very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for a minimum of seven days in order to start Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used in conjunction with an addiction treatment program in Bland that also includes individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Talk to your therapist or Dr. about how pharmacological tools can help you live the drug-free life you want.
