The armed forces currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to non-military health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can choose a primary care physician and get referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can receive drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Clinton. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various recovery services. They will need pre-authorization for services and there are likely to be some restrictions. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detox are limited to 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detoxification will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military insurance carriers are allowed to stay in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is commonly allowed. Additionally, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished other primary rehabilitation services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
