The military currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides insurance benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to non-military health care professionals within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can select a primary care physician and obtain referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.

Through TRICARE, members of the military can receive substance abuse rehabilitation services in Cowgill. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other treatment services. They will need pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some restrictions. Military insurance pays for both inpatient and outpatient, but stays for detoxification are restricted to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detoxification will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members are allowed to remain in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually accepted. Additionally, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which take place on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has completed other primary rehabilitation services such as outpatient or inpatient treatment.
