The armed forces currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to civilian health care providers within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can pick a primary doctor and obtain referrals to organizations that offer specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, military members can receive drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Trenton. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other rehab services. They will need pre-authorization for services and there are likely to be some limitations. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are limited to no more than 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time limits as to how long military members will be allowed to stay in treatment.
