The armed forces currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to non-military health care providers within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can pick a primary care physician and obtain referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can receive drug and alcohol treatment services in Zalma. This encompasses individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other rehab services. They will need pre-authorization for treatment and there are likely to be some limitations. Military insurance pays for both outpatient and inpatient, but stays for detox are restricted to no more than 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time limits as to how long military members are allowed to stay in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is commonly permitted.
