Buprenorphine is also an opiate based drug, and is a pill often taken one day on, one day off. But different from Methadone that is only be dispensed in well-regulated clinics, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The price monthly of buprenorphine is about $300.00 /month for the generic of the drug. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, which is a med that blocks the effects of opiates. An individual taking this version of the drug, AKA Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken on a daily basis, and costs approximately $450 per month. Naltrexone is another drug taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs aforementioned it's an opioid blocker and isn't an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly injection, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents a person from experience being high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 a month.
