The armed forces currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to non-military health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can choose a primary care physician and obtain referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can acquire substance abuse rehabilitation services in Natchez. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other rehabilitation services. They will need pre-authorization for treatment and there are likely to be some limitations. Military insurance pays for both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detox are restricted to 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detox will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved treatment center, and there are time limits as to how long military members will be permitted to stay in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually allowed. Additionally, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which take place on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished other treatment services such as outpatient or inpatient treatment.
