Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programs - New Site, MS.

One of the out-patient rehab alternatives for individuals in New Site struggling with opioid dependence and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Some facilities and doctors are certified to administer specific meds to opioid addicted people, many of which are opioids themselves and are addictive. With low enough doses however, the client doesn't experience high feelings but also does not experience intense cravings and is not experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first med used for this purpose, but there are a few more options currently to select from.

Methadone is an opioid and is meant to be taken at an outpatient clinic licensed to dispense the drug, which is taken on a daily basis as a pill or liquid. The price of the drug is approximately one hundred and fifty dolloars a month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based med, and is a pill often taken every other day. But unlike Methadone that can only be given in highly structured medical centers, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is approximately $300.00 per month for the generic of the medication. There is also a type of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, that is a drug that blocks the effects of opiates. A person consuming this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken daily, and costs around $450 per month. Naltrexone is another medication taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned it's an opiate blocker and is not an opioid. A person has the choice to take this medication as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents an individual from experience being high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 a month.
