Clients Referred from the Court - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers - University, MS.

Clients referred from the court for substance abuse treatment are most commonly referred because they are being given a chance to accept rehab in lieu of jail time, other charges, fines, etc. Although this is most common with first time offenders, it can be offered at any time such as while the person is already incarcerated. There are different types of rehab programs that criminal justice clients can be referred to, and this all depends on which programs are local to University and the type of substance the person requires treatment for.

There are rehab facilities that work primarily with the courts to administer to this specific type of clientele, and are typically state or federally funded or are available at no cost or very little cost to the client. Additionally, there are also private addiction recovery programs that might be authorized by the court if there is a specific type of rehab that the client needs or desires that a state-funded facility can't provide. The client's legal representation can present such alternatives to the judge for acceptance. There are even addiction treatment programs that provide services from the correctional facilities themselves, where clients are typically in a better position for reduced sentences or other benefits when enrolling in addiction rehabilitation services while serving their sentence for a drug offense or a DUI/DWI.
