The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to non-military health care providers within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can choose a primary care physician and obtain referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can acquire drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Vicksburg. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various recovery services. They will require pre-authorization for services and there are likely to be some restrictions. Military insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient, but stays for detoxification are limited to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members will be permitted to stay in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually permitted. Additionally, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished other treatment services such as outpatient or inpatient treatment.
