Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities - Circle, MT.

Vivitrol is a med used to prevent drug dependency and relapse, and is administered expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended-release type of the med Naltrexone, that is available through injection once a month. It is not addictive, and is what is called an antagonist. When an individual takes Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be activated by opioids or alcohol, so when someone drinks or tries to get high on opioids they essentially can't get drunk or high.

There are certain precautions that need to be taken before an individual begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, a client who plans to start Vivitrol must have abstained from opioids for at least seven to ten days. This is including clients who are participating in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking drugs like Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin abuser or a person who has been on Methadone for several years, quitting quickly is very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for at least 7 days if they want to start Vivitrol.

These medications must be used in conjunction with an addiction treatment program in Circle which also includes individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Speak with your doctor or therapist about how pharmacological aids can help you live the drug-free life you want.
