American Indians and Alaska Natives are historically more likely than individuals of other racial and ethnic groups to need treatment for drug and alcohol abuse and addiction. Roughly 50% of American Indian and Alaska Native substance abuse treatment admissions show up to rehab as criminal justice clients, meaning they have most likely agreed to a diversion option to receive rehab instead of jail times for their charges. So as one can see, there is an absolute need for a variety of service types to provide services for all of the very unique needs of American Indian or Alaska Natives, including substance abuse treatment programs in native languages.
