But different from Methadone which can only be given in structured clinics, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is about $300 a month for the generic version of the medication. There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, that is a drug which blocks the effects of opioids. A person consuming this version of the drug, AKA Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken on a daily basis, and is priced approximately $450 monthly. Naltrexone is another med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs aforementioned it's an opiate blocker and isn't an opioid. A person has the choice to take this drug as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents a person from getting high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 per month.
