Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - East Glacier Park, MT.

Vivitrol is a med mainly administered to help prevent drug or alcohol dependency and relapse, and is administered specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended release type of the drug Naltrexone, which one can get through a monthly injection. It is not addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When someone injects Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would normally be triggered by alcohol or opioids, so when an individual drinks alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they basically can't get drunk or high.

There are certain precautions that should be be taken before someone is administered Vivitrol. Firstly, an individual who with the intent to begin Vivitrol needs to have been off of opioids for a minimum of seven to ten days. This includes individuals who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking meds such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin abuser or a person who has been on Methadone for several years, quitting quickly is brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for at least a week in order to start Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used in conjunction with a rehab program in East Glacier Park that also includes medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Talk to your therapist or doctor in regards to how pharmacological aids can help you maintain and build the drug and alcohol free life you want.
