The armed forces currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to non-military health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can select a primary doctor and get referrals to health care services that provide specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, military members can obtain substance abuse rehabilitation services in Plentywood. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various rehabilitation services. They will need pre-authorization for services and there will most likely be some restrictions. Military insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are restricted to no more than 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detoxification will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved treatment center, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members will be permitted to stay in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually allowed. Additionally, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which take place on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished other rehabilitation services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
