American Indians and Alaska Natives are historically more likely than individuals of other racial and ethnic groups to need recovery services for substance abuse and addiction. Reversely, American Indians and Alaska Natives are more likely to seek treatment on their own will more than other racial/ethnic groups. Nearly 50% of American Indian and Alaska Native drug and alcohol treatment admissions arrive to rehab as criminal justice clients, which means they have very likely accepted a court ordered diversion program to go to treatment in lieu of jail times for their charges. So as you can see, there is an absolute need for a variety of service types to provide services for all of the very unique requirements of this client demographic, including addiction rehabilitation services in native languages.
One of the problems that American Indian and Alaska Natives in Terrell face is access to comprehensive services, especially those who live in rural locations. Facilities providing substance abuse rehab services in rural areas often are not set up to provide support intended for the needs of this special group of people including substance abuse treatment services in their language.
