There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, that is a drug which reverses the effects of opioids. A person taking this formulation, AKA Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken every day, and costs around $450 a month. Naltrexone is an additional med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications aforementioned it's an opioid blocker and isn't an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents someone from getting high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 a month.
