Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers - Michigan, ND.

One of the out-patient treatment alternatives for people in Michigan struggling with opioid dependence and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Some clinics and doctors are authorized to give certain medications to opioid addicted clients, many of which are opioid-based themselves and are addictive. In low doses however, the client doesn't feel high but also does not experience severe cravings and isn't in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first med administered for this reason, but there are other options to select from.

Methadone is an opioid and can be taken at an out-patient clinic licensed to dispense the med, which is taken daily as a pill or liquid. The cost of the med is approximately $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opioid-based med, and is a pill often taken every other day. But unlike Methadone that can only be given in structured medical centers, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is about $300.00 per month for the generic version of the medication. There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, which is a drug which blocks the effects of opiates. A person consuming this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken daily, and costs approximately $450 monthly. Naltrexone is an additional med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned here it's an opiate blocker and is not an opiate. A person has the choice to take this drug as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents an individual from feeling high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 per month.
