Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facilities - Alda, NE.

Vivitrol is a medication used to help prevent drug or alcohol abuse and relapse, and is administered specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the medication Naltrexone, which one can get via injection once a month. It is not addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual takes Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would usually be triggered by alcohol or opioids, so when an individual drinks or takes opioids they essentially cannot get high or drunk.

There are certain safety measures that need to be taken before an individual is administered Vivitrol. Firstly, a person who plans to begin Vivitrol must have been off of opioids for at least 7-10 days. This is including people who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given medications such as Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin abuser or someone who has been on Methadone for several years, abrupt cessation can be brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for at least seven days in order to start Vivitrol.

These medications must be used in conjunction with a rehab program in Alda which also offers medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Speak with your doctor or therapist in regards to how pharmacological aids can help you build and maintain the drug and alcohol free life you want.
