Naltrexone is an additional med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned here it is an opioid blocker and is not an opiate. A person has the choice to take this drug as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents someone from experience high feelings from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse.
