The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides insurance benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to civilian health care providers within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can pick a primary care physician and obtain referrals to organizations that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can receive substance abuse rehabilitation services in Derry. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various rehab services. They will require pre-authorization for treatment and there are likely to be some limitations. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are restricted to no more than 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members will be allowed to remain in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually accepted. In additional to this, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis.
