American Indians and Alaska Natives are historically more likely than individuals of other racial and ethnic groups to require treatment for drug and alcohol abuse and addiction. Reversely, American Indians and Alaska Natives are also more likely to feel the need to seek treatment than other racial/ethnic groups. Roughly 50% of American Indian and Alaska Native addiction treatment admissions arrive to treatment as criminal justice clients, meaning they have most likely agreed to a diversion option to receive treatment in lieu of jail times for their charges. So as you can see, there is an absolute need for different types of treatment programs to provide services for all of the various requirements of this client demographic, including addiction rehabilitation services in native languages.
One of the challenges that American Indian and Alaska Natives in Fair Lawn face is access to comprehensive rehab programs, particularly those who live in secluded locations. Programs providing substance abuse rehab services in rural areas commonly are not set up to provide strategic planning designed to meet the needs of this unique group of people including substance abuse treatment services in their language.
