The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 years of age or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which grants access to civilian health care providers within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can select a primary doctor and get referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.

Through TRICARE, military members can acquire drug and alcohol treatment services in Tranquility. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other various recovery services. They will require pre-authorization for treatment and there are likely to be some restrictions. Military insurance pays for both outpatient and inpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are limited to no more than 7 days.
