The military currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to non-military health care providers within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can pick a primary doctor and obtain referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can receive substance abuse rehabilitation services in Santa Fe. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various rehabilitation services. They will require pre-authorization for services and there are likely to be some limitations. Military insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient, but inpatient services for detox are restricted to 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detoxification will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time restrictions as to how long military insurance carriers will be permitted to stay in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is commonly permitted. Additionally, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which occur on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished other treatment services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
