Clients referred from the court for substance abuse rehabilitation are most commonly referred because they are being given a chance to receive rehab rather than face jail time, other charges, fines, etc. While this is most common among first time offenders, it can happen at any time including while the defendant is already incarcerated. There are different types of programs that criminal justice clients can be referred to, and it usually all depends on which programs are local to Stateline and the type of substance the person requires treatment for.
There are rehab facilities that work directly with the criminal justice court system to administer to this explicit group of clientele, and are usually state or federally funded or are available at little or no cost to the client. There are also private addiction rehab centers that can be accepted by the court if there is a specific type of rehab that the person requires or wants that a different facility can't provide. The client's attorney can present such alternatives to the judge for acceptance. There are even addiction rehabilitation programs that operate out of the correctional institutions themselves, where clients are typically in a better position for reduced sentences or other leniencies when participating in drug rehab services while serving their time for a drug related offense or a DUI/DWI.
