The armed forces currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides insurance benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to non-military health care providers within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can select a primary doctor and get referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, military members can receive substance abuse rehabilitation services in Hannibal. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other treatment services. They will require pre-authorization for services and there are likely to be some limitations. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but stays for detoxification are limited to 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time restrictions as to how long military members will be allowed to remain in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually permitted. Additionally, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished prior treatment services such as outpatient or inpatient treatment.
