SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - Homer, NY.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to advance the mental health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid rehab facilities, which are centers who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Drug prescribed are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab centers in Homer are programs that are officially allowed to distribute the drugs used in MAT as long as they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get auxiliary benefits aside from medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid treatment program can receive basic certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehabilitation facility is certified, they need to get re-certified each year or every 3 years contingent upon the kind of certification that was granted.
