SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Facilities - Meridian, NY.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to advance the mental health of the nation. One of its duties is the administering of opioid rehab programs, which are programs who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab centers in Meridian are programs which are officially permitted to dispense the medicines used in MAT as long as they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also receive auxiliary services aside from medication such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehab center can get their basic approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment program is approved to operate, they need to get re-certified each year or every 3 years depending on the kind of accreditation that was given.
