The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for health efforts to advance the mental health of the U.S.. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are programs that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Drug prescribed are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab facilities in Patchogue are programs which are legally permitted to give out the medications used in MAT being they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive ancillary services in addition to medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid treatment center can get their initial certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab programs accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehabilitation center is approved to operate, they need to get re-certified each year or every 3 years depending on the type of certification it has been granted.
