The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for health efforts to promote the behavioral health of the nation. One of its obligations is the oversight of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Drug given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab programs in Ridgewood are programs which are officially permitted to give out the medicines used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also receive auxiliary benefits aside from medicine like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehabilitation center can get their basic certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment facility is certified, they need to get re-certified every year or every three years contingent upon the type of certification that was given.
