American Indians and Alaska Natives are historically more likely than individuals of other racial and ethnic groups to need rehabilitation for substance abuse and addiction. Reversely, American Indians and Alaska Natives are more likely to seek treatment on their own will more than other racial/ethnic groups. Almost 50% of American Indian and Alaska Native addiction treatment admissions show up to treatment as criminal justice clients, meaning they have very likely accepted a diversion option to receive rehab instead of jail times for their charges.
