SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities - Staten Island, NY.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of efforts to advance the behavioral health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are centers which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine prescribed are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Staten Island are programs who are legally permitted to give out the drugs used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also get ancillary services aside from medication like psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid treatment facility can get their initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehabilitation facility is certified, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years depending on the kind of accreditation it has been given.
