SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Facilities - Syracuse, NY.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to promote the mental health of the U.S.. One of its obligations is the administering of opioid rehabilitation facilities, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Drug administered are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Syracuse are programs that are legally permitted to dispense the medicines used in MAT as long as they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive ancillary services aside from medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehab facility can get their basic certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment center is certified, it must be re-certified each year or every 3 years depending on the type of certification that was granted.
