SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centers - Waddington, NY.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of efforts to advance the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are centers which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medications given are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation programs in Waddington are programs who are officially allowed to distribute the medications used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get auxiliary services aside from medication such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehab program can receive initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab facilities accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab center is certified, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years depending on the type of certification it has been granted.
