Naltrexone is an additional medication taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned here it is an opioid blocker and is not an opiate. A person has the choice to take this drug as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents an individual from experience being high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse.
