Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - Franklin, OH.

One of the out-patient treatment options for clients in Franklin who are struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Some centers and doctors are authorized to dispense specific medications to opioid addicted individuals, many of which are opioid-based also and are addictive. In low amounts the individual doesn't experience high feelings and also doesn't have severe cravings and is not experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication tried for this reason, but there are other options to choose from.

Methadone is an opioid and is meant to be taken at an outpatient medical center licensed to dispense the med, that is taken on a daily basis as a pill or liquid. The cost of the med is about $150 a month. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based drug, and is a pill often taken every other day. But unlike Methadone which can only be administered in highly structured clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The cost monthly of buprenorphine is about just under $300 per month for the generic of the med. There is also a version of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, that is a drug that reverses the effects of opioids. A person consuming this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken daily, and costs around $450 a month. Naltrexone is an additional drug taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs aforementioned it's an opioid blocker and is not an opiate. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents a person from getting high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 a month.
