The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to civilian health care providers within their provider network, with a reduced coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can pick a primary care physician and obtain referrals to health care services that provide specialty care.

Through TRICARE, military members can receive drug and alcohol treatment services in North Lima. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other various recovery services. They will require pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance pays for both outpatient and inpatient, but stays for detox are restricted to no more than 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detoxification will only be authorized if it is an approved facility, and there are time limits as to how long military insurance carriers will be permitted to stay in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is commonly permitted. Additionally, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has finished other primary rehabilitation services such as outpatient or inpatient treatment.
