Naltrexone is another med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned it is an opiate blocker and isn't an opioid. A person has the choice to take this medication as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents someone from feeling high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 /month.
