Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities - Sterling, OH.

Vivitrol is a med used to prevent drug use and relapse, and is used expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the med Naltrexone, which is available via a monthly injection. It isn't addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual takes Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would usually be triggered by alcohol or opioids, so when someone drinks alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they essentially cannot get drunk or high.

There are certain precautions that need to be taken before someone is administered Vivitrol. Firstly, an individual who plans to begin Vivitrol needs to have been off of opioids for at least seven to ten days. This is including clients who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking medications such as Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin abuser or a person who has been on Methadone for several years, quitting quickly can be brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for a minimum of seven days in order to begin taking Vivitrol.

These meds must be used in conjunction with a treatment program in Sterling which also offers medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Talk with your doctor or therapist in regards to how pharmacological tools can help you maintain the drug and alcohol free life you want.
