Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers - Gotebo, OK.

Vivitrol is a med mainly administered to prevent drug use and relapse, and is administered expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended-release type of the medication Naltrexone, that is available via injection once a month. It is not addictive, and is what is called an antagonist. When someone is adminstered Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be activated by opioids or alcohol, so when someone drinks alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they essentially can't get high or drunk.

There are particular precautions that need to be taken before someone is administered Vivitrol. First off, someone who plans to start Vivitrol must have abstained from opioids for a minimum of seven to ten days. This includes people who are participating in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking medications such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin abuser or a person who has been on Methadone for several years, quitting quickly is very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for at least seven days if they want to start Vivitrol.

These meds must be used as part of a rehab program in Gotebo that also includes individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Talk to your therapist or Dr. in regards to how pharmacological tools can help you maintain and build the drug-free life you want.
