Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs - Haskell, OK.

Vivitrol is a medication used to help prevent drug dependency and relapse, and is administered specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended-release type of the drug Naltrexone, which one can get through a monthly injection. It is not addictive, and is what is called an antagonist. When an individual injects Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would usually be triggered by alcohol or opioids, so when an individual drinks or takes opioids they essentially can't get drunk or high.

There are certain precautions that need to be taken before an individual begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, a client who intends to start Vivitrol needs to have been off of opioids for a minimum of 7-10 days. This includes clients who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking meds like Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin addict or a person who has been on Methadone for a long time, abrupt cessation is very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for at least 7 days in order to begin taking Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used as part of a rehab program in Haskell which also includes individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Talk to your therapist or doctor in regards to how pharmacological aids can help you live the sober life you want.
