The military currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to civilian health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can choose a primary doctor and get referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, members of the military can receive drug and alcohol treatment services in Arlington. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other substance abuse recovery services. They will require pre-authorization for treatment and there are likely to be some limitations. Military insurance pays for both outpatient and inpatient, but stays for detoxification are limited to no more than 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time restrictions as to how long military insurance carriers are allowed to remain in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually permitted. In additional to this, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has completed prior treatment services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
