American Indians and Alaska Natives are historically more likely than individuals of other racial and ethnic groups to require rehabilitation for substance abuse and addiction. Roughly 50% of American Indian and Alaska Native drug and alcohol treatment admissions show up to rehab as criminal justice clients, meaning they have very likely accepted a court ordered diversion program to go to treatment instead of jail time. So therefore, there is a definite need for different types of treatment programs to provide services for all of the various requirements of this client demographic, including addiction rehabilitation programs in native languages.
One of the challenges that American Indian and Alaska Natives in Boring face is access to effective services, especially those who reside in secluded locations.
