The military currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay yearly deductible and coinsurance, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses. They will require pre-authorization for services and there are likely to be some restrictions. Military insurance pays for both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are limited to no more than 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time limits as to how long military insurance carriers will be permitted to remain in rehab.
