The armed forces currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is available for Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to civilian health care professionals within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various rehab services. They will require pre-authorization for treatment and there are likely to be some limitations. Military insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient, but inpatient services for detoxification are limited to 7 days.
