One of the outpatient rehab options for clients in Delta who are battling with opioid abuse and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Some clinics and doctors are certified to dispense specific medications to opioid addicted people, many that are opioid-based themselves and are addiction. In low enough doses however, the individual does not experience high feelings and also does not experience intense cravings and isn't in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is an opioid and can be taken at an out-patient medical center licensed to administer the med, that is taken on a daily basis as a pill or liquid. The cost of the drug is approximately $150 per month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based drug, and is a pill often taken one day on, one day off. But unlike Methadone that can only be dispensed in highly structured clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is about just under $300 monthly for the generic version of the medication. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, that is a drug which reverses the effects of opiates. An individual taking this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken on a daily basis, and is priced approximately $450 per month. Naltrexone is another medication used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs aforementioned it's an opioid blocker and isn't an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly injection, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents someone from feeling high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 per month.
