Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers - Elrama, PA.

One of the out-patient treatment options for individuals in Elrama struggling with opioid dependence and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Some clinics and doctors are certified to give certain meds to opioid addicted clients, many that are opioids also and are habit forming. With low enough doses however, the individual does not experience being high but also doesn't experience severe cravings and isn't in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first drug tried for this reason, but there are other choices currently to select from.

Methadone is an opiate and can be taken at an outpatient medical center licensed to administer the med, that is taken daily as a pill or liquid. The cost of the med is about $150 a month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based med, and is in pill form often taken one day on, one day off. But unlike Methadone that can only be given in structured clinics, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The cost monthly of buprenorphine is around $300.00 monthly for the generic of the medication. There is also a type of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, which is a med that reverses the effects of opiates. Someone taking this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken every day, and costs about $450 /month. Naltrexone is another med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs aforementioned it's an opioid blocker and is not an opiate. A person has the choice to take this drug as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents an individual from experience being high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 a month.
