When an individual in Scotland needs substance abuse treatment and doesn't have health insurance or the money to pay for the rehab program in full, the Access to Recovery Voucher is an option to look into. ATR is a federally-funded program which makes it possible for qualified people to access addiction treatment programs and services including inpatient programs, intensive outpatient, regular outpatient, counseling, continuing care, life coaching and recovery support, vocational training, skills building, and transportation assistance. The ATR grant program provides individuals with vouchers to acquire rehabilitation and recovery support services for substance use disorders at the provider of their choice. To be eligible for ATR individuals must meet certain requirements, including: 1) be at least 18 years of age, 2) have a history of substance use or abuse, 3) have a yearly income that is less than 200% of the Federal poverty level, and 4) reside in the counties or jurisdictions that provide ATR.
People interested in the Access to Recovery Voucher can contact ATR Service Coordinators in their area. If someone's original choice of treatment or rehab center isn't working out, they can consult with their coordinator to locate one that is and that accepts the ATR.
